My Neighborhood

This is one of those: sort-of, kind-of “stretching of the truth” story about my suburban neighborhood here in Sherdan.  As you might know, Sherdan is a great neighborhood; it’s the dream house neighborhood they show in movies in the unrealistic dreams that the main character fantasize about.  It is full of smiling neighbors, and everyone drives a Lexus or a sports car.  Every one of my peers loves to play soccer and to do volunteer work around the community.  As for the house themselves, well they can only be described as astonishing.  They are towering structures with 6 bed rooms in each, 3 bath rooms, an open back yard, and most choose to have an in ground pool and deck with a hot tube.  As for the violence around my community, well that word is just simply unheard of; whenever there is breaking news stories on the television, we can rest assure knowing it’s not happening near us.  With birds chirping year round, and dog owners walking on the sunny sidewalks of Sherdan, I couldn’t be more happy living in such a magnificent environment.

Here We Go Steelers !

The Pittsburgh Steelers are headed to the super bowl to earn their seventh ring. They worked very hard and came very far. Many people doubted them but they proved us wrong but the true fans never gave up and we still support our boys. We’ve recently beat the Baltimore Ravens 31-24 in the NFL Playoffs on Saturday in are hometown. The Ravens thought they were ready for the Black and Gold but they were sadly mistaken.

Seniors! :)

Our final year of high school is already halfway finished.  For some of us, we will miss this school, for others we will always remember it, and for a few; we cant wait to leave.  But whether you love it or hate it, it’s going to be over in the blink of an eye.  In four months, we’ll be looking back and wondering where the year went and wonder where we’re going to end up.

Though all of these emotions, it is important that you still remember to payyour senior fee! Senior fee is due Febuary 4th and is   90 dollars. This  covers cap and gown as well as a year book. It is also important to get information about how much your personal obligation is (the things you’ve lost/broken throughout your high school career).  Your’s could range any where from as high as Brian Nuckles’ (600 dollars) to being nothing.  If you know that you have any property of the school, turn it in to avoid extra costs. Without paying your obligation and senior fee, you will not be able to walk across the stage.

Hope the rest of your senior year is a good one.

Thousands Gathered in Mourning

In the article “Youngest Arizona Shooting Victim Laid to Rest,” Gillian Flaccus discusses the tragedy that occured on January 8th, 2011. The attempted assassination of Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords resulted in six deaths. Thirteen others were injured including Giffords who was severely hurt with a shot to the head and other minor injuries. The article focused mainly on Christina Taylor Green, the nine year old who was the youngest victim of the Arizona shootings. Christina was born on September 11th, 2001 and was a ”joyful, patriotic, and athletic” girl. In the article are quotes from some of the people that Christina was close to and knew well. An eight year old boy shares the memories he had with Christina and wanted to leave a giant teddy bear they called “Brownie” at the growing memorial at the school. Bishop Gerald Kicanas, her father John Green, and Angie Yrigoyen shared their memories of Christina to express their mourning. Outside of the Church, thousands of people lined up on both side of the street for more than a quarter-mile.

This article shows how one gunman, with one person in mind to hurt, can destroy multiple lives.

Response to an article by Rej Mukhammedov

In the article “Adriano is the Imperador being exiled back to Brazil” that I just have read I noticed lots of changes happening in the professional football teams. Players like Adriano and Cassano both former AS Roma players having troubles with transferring to the clubs they desire. Both players are highly skilled and have shined in the European League’s more than few times. These meaningless transfer issues with players like that is usually very strange and I am not surprised. These both players have abused their bodies and mental healths and put their teams in questions? Could they play the next game? How good will their endurance be? Can they go 100 percent? Their response wasn’t impressive. Adriano former Brazilian National player and Antonio Cassano former Italian National player, they’re both professional football careers in risk. If they fail not to move to smaller teams they might be seeking jobs. We’ll not really since football players everywhere in the world get paid incredible amount of money. Adriano right now is trying to move to a Brazilian Team Corinthians where his colleagues Superstar players play. Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

Disney On Ice to repeat show for CE Center debut

This March, Disney On Ice will make its Consol Energy Center debut. This year they’ll repeat a show from a previous year just like last year with Finding Nemo. This year it’s Princess Classics which was shown at the Civic Arena in 2005. The 1st half of the show includes the princesses Snow White, Ariel, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine and Mulan. The 2nd half includes just Cinderella. The show also includes apperences by Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Tinker Bell from Peter Pan. I saw it when it first came to Pittsburgh in 2005. For a DOI show for girls, it was pretty good. Hopefully, next year DOI will be a new show to Pittsburgh.

Japanese New Year

The Japanese New Year is celebrated every January 1st according to the Gregorian Calendar. The New Year is considered one of the most important annual festivals in their culture and is celebrated with their own customs and traditions. During the New Year, Japanese people eat a special selection of food that is called osechi. Some other traditions of the Japanese New Year are bell striking. Bell striking occurs at midnight on December 31, when Buddhist temples strike their bells 108 time. This symbolizes the 108 sins in the Buddhist faith, and the striking is also to get rid of the 108 worldly desires regarding sense and feeling in Japanese citizen. Another tradition of the Japanese New Year is otoshidama, which is the tradition of giving children money in decorated envelopes. This are just a few Japanese Traditions.
